As we live with coronavirus we continue to take health and safety precautions for our patients and our team. Although face to face clinics have resumed, video consultations are also available. High standards of protection and disinfection are maintained during and between consultations. Rahila will be wearing a mask, the equipment is cleaned between patients, and appointments have been spread out to minimise crowding.

Rahila sees a range of eye problems, such as cataracts, and has subspecialty expertise in retinal conditions, especially those that need surgery. Rahila is actively involved in research, education and training, and holds an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer post with the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London, where she is also Academic Tutor. She trains doctors at all levels, including experienced doctors who are training to become Vitreoretinal specialists themselves. Rahila is also a Certified Lifestyle Medicine Physician, and brings this interest to her consultations.

Cataract Surgery

A cataract is the last stage of the natural ageing process that affects the lens in the eye. When we are young, the lens is transparent and quite pliable, so it can change shape to help us focus to see things clearly in the distance as well as up close, such as for reading and using mobile phones and tablets. Find out more about cataract surgery.

Vitreoretinal surgery

A vitrectomy operation is an operation inside the eye, which is done through three small keyhole incisions made on the white of the eye. The vitreous gel in the back half of the eye is removed as part of the surgical treatment of a range of conditions such as retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, vitreous haemorrhages and advanced complications of diabetic eye disease. Find out more about Vitrectomy.
